A new custom transformer for FME has just been released: the SidedBufferer. This allows for the creation of buffers with different widths to the left and right of the original features. It can be downloaded and used for free.

Hans van der Maarel of Red Geographics will be doing 2 presentations during the upcoming NACIS conference (Oct. 10-13, St. Louis). The first one, as part of Practical Cartography Day, will focus on how FME can be used to assist a cartographic workflow.

The second one will discuss the production process used for the world map Red Geographics produced for Oolaalaa’s spherical chairs, and what problems had to be overcome to get to the perfect end result.

The first VNS course organised by Red Geographics turned out to be a great success. Students from The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Austria enjoyed 3 days of instruction by Adam Hauldren and Hans van der Maarel.

Virtual Apeldoorn, the interactive 3D environment built by the City of Apeldoorn, has reached the finals of the European eGovernment Award.

This is a bi-annual award by the EC, acknowledging outstanding projects in the field of eGovernment. Virtual Apeldoorn has been nominated in the category “Participation and Transparency”, which entails Interactive initiatives that empower citizens and business to influence open government, policy-making and the way public administrations operate and deliver services.
